Volastra is a quiet village on a hill over Cinque Terre, between the sea and the sky. It is surrounded by century-old olive trees and terraced vineyards which witness the village's old farming tradition.

On the basis of its round plan, Volastra is thought to have etrusc origins. The parish church is dedicated to Our Lady Mary of Health (celebrated on the 25th of August) and is situated a few meters outside the village. It was built in the 12th century (probably over an older church) with huge stone blocks. It is characterised by a newly restored mullioned window with two lights in Carrara marble

Local vineyards produce Sciacchetrà (a rare and sweet raisin wine) and a white wine which was well known even among the Romans. Wild olive trees give a high quality olive oil.

After a 30 minute walk on a path you can reach Manarola, where as Corniglia can be reached in 1 hour and a half. The Cinque Terre National Park offers a bus service which links Manarola to Volastra all the year rou
